This is a tutorial of how to send and receive email from your Google Mail, or Gmail, account.

Inbox:
First thing to do is to sign in to your account. If you can't remember your login information, please see Mr. Landry.

When you log in, you will be shown your Inbox. This is where you can see your email that you have received.

Notice the left side has some options for you including viewing different folders such as your Sent Mail (which is a copy of all of the email that you sent to people in the past), your drafts (which are emails that you didn't finish or didn't send yet), and your Trash (listed lower in the picture, this is where any emails are sent when you delete them).

In the upper right hand corner, there are three options that are important. The group of nine squares in the shape of a square is where you can find your google apps such as google drive, google docs, and google sites. More on this on a different How To. Next to that is your email address, where you can log off. Remember to log off any time you are finished checking your email! Under that is a funny looking gear picture. That changes the look and feel of your email. You can see that I have the weather theme on, as you can see that it is snowing outside when I took this picture.

Composing an Email:

Click on the Compose button, which will open a new window for you to write your email.

The To line is the email address that you want to send a message to. The Subject line is what the email is about. The body is the large box under these two lines. At the bottom are word processing options that you can modify. I wouldn't change too much about your email, as you don't know how other email clients such as yahoo or aol will view these changes. I would keep my email looking simple so that all email clients can open it.

To attach a document, such as a class assignment, to your email simply click on the picture of a paper clip at the bottom of the window.

This will open up a new window for you to choose the document you want to attach. You have to know where your document is on your computer for you to use this function. Be sure to save your documents somewhere simple for you to remember, such as the desktop.

You can also add an emoticon by clicking on the smiley face at the bottom.

Select/Delete:

To select a message to delete, simple click on the box next to it and a new toolbar opens above your messages.

To delete your message, just click the trash picture above your messages. You will see a message that tells you "Your conversation has been moved to the trash" which tells you that the message has been deleted.
